Recap Remix (pt 1)

Long overdue on an update here! Since the last time I posted, I've sold my mini wallets and moved on to a new 3-pocket style wallet which I will post in part 2 of my Recap Remix...But first, here are some pictures featuring the items I created for the Brewery Art Walk I participated in this past April.

The Brewery Art Walk is a two day semi-annual art walk that takes place in the Brewery Artist Lofts right on the border of the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Chinatown and Lincoln Heights. As a member of this community I was able to participate in the most recent art walk this past April 26&27. It was a great event with a huge turnout and a positive response from those who came out. I created some one of a kind wearable pieces using found and salvaged denim, along with my vinyl wallets.

As an advantage of living in an artist's community, I discovered an innovative way to create hang tags using Lumi inkodye, which you see in the last picture above.

Re:Up Handmade + Happy New Year!

So it's taken too long to finally post some of these new wallets up. There was a batch of Kate Moss wallets that I was never able to post as the majority sold out before I could get them online. A proper photo shoot is in order for me to update my Etsy with these new wallets but here's an idea of what I'll have for sale.

Also, HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2013 was a great year of change for me. I was able to have a lot of personal and creative down time for myself and was finally able to make a major move to Los Angeles. Here's to 2014! Make your dreams come true! :)

Palm Trees and Summer Love

The weather in Chicago has been a little less than consistent, so I made this mini dress out of a  men's button-up in anticipation for warmer weather. I'm glad for this little creation as it has helped to fuel my next batch of items for my Re:Up label. Ps, I love my little bucket hat. 90 cent come up! Love those thrift store finds. <3 p="">

Dutty Wine

I made these in a hurry and don't have a decent photo yet, but wanted to share a little recon I did on some jean shorts to keep the posts flowing. I replaced the pockets with some scrap fabric I purchased by the pound from one of the few Unison warehouse sales, here in Chicago. I enjoy the end result, and now have a way to incorporate more color into my wardrobe as I usually end up defaulting to every shade of black.

Re:Up Handmade

I started making and selling these mini wallets as a way to use excess fabric/clothing/whatever I had or didn't know what to do with. They made their debut at a one day pop-up shopping event I helped to put on called Winter Local, held at the Chicago Artists' Coalition back in December. Since then, I've launched an etsy shop (which I am building up my stock and working on developing new accessories for) named Re:Up Handmade Goods, as the materials I use are reclaimed or upcycled. The name also is a small homage to a certain rap duo that I like. Can anyone guess who?

My wallets are also being sold at Green Grocer in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago.

Re:Up Handmade helped to motivate me to start really working towards my goal of creating a small apparel and accessories line of items geared towards sustainability, streamlined function, and unique + understated design. They're perfect for holding the essentials: credit card, transit pass, business cards, and several folded up bills.

I'll be updating more about Re:Up when I've got new items to share. Until then, here are some unedited shots!
